Carmelita grew up in San Francisco, eventually attending nearby University of San Francisco where she earned her Bachelor of Science in Marketing degree.
After graduation she was offered a job at Robertson Stephens Investment Bank, eventually reaching the position of Vice President of Syndicate and Capital Markets.
She worked on IPOs, from the marketing to the day-to-day operational activities.
Her work included the IPOs for Whole Foods, Pacific Sunwear and E-Trade.com.
The most significant experience, though, was traveling all over the world with Steve Jobs in the lead up to the IPO for Pixar.
Proving Her Business Expertise in Hawaii
She left this fast-paced world to come to Hawaii with her family, where she and her husband owned and operated the Outrigger Catamaran in Waikiki.
She applied her deep experience in marketing and business to streamline and cut their costs, making it 10 times more profitable over the 12 years she and her husband owned the company.
By using her knowledge of bookkeeping and management methods, she was able to bring not just profitability, but solid stability.
It was something she realized she could apply and provide to other Hawaii businesses.
